MILLER AUTO CARE
Over five years in the making, the Miller Auto Care relocation project has finally come to fruition. The 10,000 square foot facility features a simple and functional industrial aesthetic. A highlight of this space is the custom reception desk built to feature the front grill of an Oldsmobile.
The existing senior care home wanted to expand their dining room and feature a sun porch. We provided permit drawings to accomplish this vision - opening up the existing load-bearing wall to extend the communal living space and let in natural lighting.
IMMANUEL CHURCH OF CHRIST
The renovations and addition to the historic landmark on the southeast side of Indianapolis provided a new narthex, chapel, administrative offices and childcare classrooms. The addition was expected to blend in with the existing church while also providing a fresh face to the north and west facades that can be seen from I-70.
THE BLACKSMITH MIXED-USE
The Blacksmith was a mixed-use building proposal commissioned by the Blackford County Economic Development Council to help market a vacant downtown building in need of a buyer. The team identified potential tenants and helped design spaces which would meet their needs.
BON AIR APARTMENTS
The Bon Air Apartments, located at 21 W 16th Street, were born in 1922 when Indianapolis was booming and littered with low rise buildings of many turn of the century styles. The three nearly identical buildings survived for nearly 90 years before spiraling into a state of disrepair and vacancy. Located at the outer edge of the city center, as investment in downtown living shot up, a developer purchased the dilapidated site with the intent of returning the buildings to their former glory. The project includes complete rehabilitation and reconfiguration of the units to provide for modern amenities in a turn of the century setting.
CENTERVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
This historic 1867 building, originally designed as a twenty-call jail and warden's home, later became a masonic lodge before providing its current services as a library.
AIR NATIONAL GUARD
This 18,000 square foot facility is a design-build project in partnership with Indianapolis contractor, Davis & Associates. As the first design-build building on the base, it houses offices, training classrooms, equipment storage, an exercise room, and locker rooms.
BEECH GROVE LIBRARY
This renovation of the Beech Grove Library provides a more open, flexible seating arrangement to allow more daylight into the space. Several rooms were removed so the reception desk and checkout were combined with visual connectivity to the entries and the various library areas. This also meant moving the historic train caboose so the children’s area was more visible and relocating the audio/visual area.
Halstead Architects worked to bring an outdated and undesirable employee cafeteria into the 21st century with a fitness center, game room, and seating area with fireplace. The client desired a cafe feel while working under tight budget restraints which demanded durable design.
