PASS Charter School
Indianapolis, IN

Phase 1 Proposal (Grades K-6 & dining facility)

The PASS Charter School facility is designed to reflect the technological approach to learning found in the school's curriculum. Located on approximately 4.5 acres on West Washington Street in Indianapolis, the construction of this new school building is a three phased project in order to meet the expanding enrollment of students over a three year period.

The first phase of the facility, at 25,167 square feet, provides two classrooms for each of the grades from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade (14 total). The primary entrance to the building opens to a two story space centered around a staircase. From this entry space, a large Cafeteria with seating for 104+ students, Kitchen, and Media Center (1,300 sq.ft.) as well as Administration Offices and Staff Lounges are accessed. The largest of several alcoves scattered throughout the building is located on the second floor adjacent to the two story space. These alcoves provide student gathering spaces for independent and group study as well as areas for informal lectures and exhibits. Also located in this area is one of two outdoor balconies which bring the surrounding green-space into the building. The classrooms are located to the south along double-loaded corridors; each with a clear floor space ranging from 545 square feet to 690 square feet with a maximum of 15 students per room. The classrooms are provided with closed storage cabinetry and the lower grades include single toilet rooms in the classroom. Other classrooms include Music (585 sq.ft.), Art (585 sq.ft.), Speech & Hearing (295 sq.ft.), and English Second Language (380 sq.ft.).

Phase 2 Addition (Gymnasium and music facilities)

The second phase of the PASS Charter School is a 20,927 square foot Gymnasium / Auditorium addition located to the south of phase one. The full-court gymnasium includes retractable bleachers, Locker Rooms, and a new 1,000 square foot classroom which will become a high school music room. The raised 20'x50' stage, with seating on the gym floor, is accessed via an ADA accessible ramp with backstage storage and dressing rooms also available.)

South Elevation of Gymnasium (Phase 2)

Phase Three of the project includes the 19,500 square foot High School addition located to the north of phase one. This provides seventeen classrooms ranging in size from 590 square feet to 695 square feet including science labs and art classrooms. Lockers line the corridor walls and each classroom contains storage cabinetry for teacher supplies. The addition more than doubles the size of the phase one cafeteria (adding 128 seats) and it enlarges the phase one media center by 600 square feet.
