City County Building Courtroom Renovation
Indianapolis, IN

When the City County Building (CCB) began to run out of Courtroom space, the Building Authority was commissioned to find an architect for the build-out. Building on their outstanding relationship fostered during the Marion County Work Release Center project, the Building Authority hired Halstead Architects to provide full architectural services for the built-out.

Using what had become abandoned office space, we were presented with the challenge of rearranging the modular floor plan into functional courtrooms, hearing rooms, jury rooms and offices. Working closely with the tenants, facilities managers, security personnel, Building Authority construction personnel and the General Contractor, we orchestrated a clean, on-budget completion of a multi-faceted renovation.

The result of this project is a functional, simple yet attractive solution to creating municipal space for the most effective tax payer dollar. From the reuse of existing carpet and gallery seating from the old Market Square Arena, to the inclusion of visual matching wood and metal railings and a modern, timeless interior material palette, the project has been yet another successful collaborative effort between owner, architect and contractor.
