Spring - Summer 2005 | Masonry Restoration
During and after the demolition process, the masonry restoration
progressed slowly but surely. Scaffold was erected around the building,
and the brick was systematically removed from the facade, cleaned up,
palatized and stored until it could be rebuilt.

The masonry facade was in such bad shape that it had to
be re-laid, substituting new brick where the old brick was unusable. Masonry
anchors were too few and far between to be reused. The anchors had been
fastened with nails that were not adequate for the usage.

Fortunately, the wood plank sheathing (above) was
in mostly good shape, with the exception of some areas where water the
gutters had failed and water had penetrated the facade (below)

While the above pictures don't do it justice due to the
lime scale on the new bricks, the new look is seamless between old and
new materials. Once washed and cleaned, the building looks almost as original
as the day it had been built.
